The Christmas season especially conjures up images of warm hearths and cozy, old Churchill chairs; feet covered with sherpa slippers. The wind outside causes fresh snow to dance about like sugarplum fairies and brings to life every crick and groan of the logs surrounding. The floor to the coffee pot is kept warm by a selection of old skins and tattered, woven rugs. It’s a magical setting at a magical time of year. It’s a dream that many of us find comfort in and look forward to as a place of respite and relaxation. It can be a reality this holiday season though at the Green Gate Log Cabin in Biwabik, MN.
The Log Cabin is one of three unique, historic vacation homes on a beautiful 13-acre property, that boasts “pioneer living” in style!
Built around 1890 by a talented Finnish craftsman, the original, hand-hewn log cabin still stands. It has been well preserved and masterfully updated into a unique, historic home. The 15′ x 15′ floorplan includes a kitchen, dining table, sofa, and wood stove, plus a bathroom neatly tucked below a loft staircase. The bones of the original cabin are exposed leaving a sense of history despite the modern convenience that has been added: air conditioning, in-floor heat, and a high-efficiency tankless water heater for endless hot water.
Perhaps one of the most appreciated jewels in the crown of this tiny house is the well-appointed kitchen which includes a 2-burner gas cooktop, farm sink, concrete countertops, an under-counter refrigerator/freezer, a coffeemaker, teapot, and cookware/serving ware for 2-3 guests. A microwave and countertop convection oven is also provided in the nearby closet should they be needed.
The sleeping loft is underneath the roof pitch complete with exposed trusses and offers up a full-sized, platform bed, reclaimed oak flooring, separate air conditioning, a DVD player and television, and beautiful views of the surrounding forests.
During the warmer months, the cabin also plays host to a number of activities with its wrap-around porch that covers the south and west sides and extends to the adjacent hewn log “privy” and outdoor summer shower area nearby.
Green Gate Log Cabin is a beautiful oasis near the Great Lakes and approaching the Canadian border. To find out how to book your short-term or long-term stay visit the listing on Try It Tiny.
